Well, if you plan on meeting someone from one of those sites, please be very careful. Though I am a proponent of online dating (I feel it is the same as meeting someone in a club or bar or store), and feel at least you can spend some time getting to know the person online first, you need to be careful.
If you agree to meet the person, always make it a public place (a coffee shop of diner), and like in any "first-time-meeting-the -person-scenario" do not let the person you are going to meet know too much personal info about you (address, job location or job number).
Other than that I would check out common places where people congregate (Bookstore, Starbucks, Coffee Shops, Diners, Music Stores, GAP, etc.) and just be yourself. Strike up a casual conversation with someone that may interest you (talk about a book the person is buying or CD that they are looking at), and see what happens from there.
