After reviewing the play over and over I would say it was not intentional. Rooney had eye contact with the ball the whole time and when his foot made contact with Carvalho's groin it was meant to stop him from falling backwards. You can see he is stumbling and only one foot is planted on the ground. Naturally your body would like to regain balance and due to Rooney's concentration on the ball he placed his foot unknowingly into Carvalho. Unfortunate at most.

When the game was stopped at this point the ref is indicating it is Portugal's ball. However, Ronaldo runs up to the referee and starts declaring it was a foul.

From now on it is my guess that judging by the look on Rooney's face he is totally aggravated by what Ronaldo is saying and finds it unfair. He then pushes Ronaldo in front of the ref.

I do not think it should have been a red. Earlier in the game a player from Portugal pushes an English players after play has stopped but nothing is called. In all fairness the ref must remain constant.

Yellow at most, no to red.

He got the red because he told the ref to F off and pushed the other player in front of him that was two yellow cards plus the foul the ref did not need to take the two yellows out just the RED and Rooney was out. Rooney is well know for his rudeness and rough play so any ref would of given him a red card for all he did in less than a minute.

YES of course!

Rooney was being aggressive from the start, bumping a portuguese defender's head early in the game.

In that play he pushed a couple of players (which is Ok - part of the game) but then stepped on the guy's balls

intentional or unintentional this is a red card, and believe me you will hear even more penalties from FIFA for this.

Yes he did first he stepped on the Portugal player's private area and then he pushed C. Ronaldo twice. He has a bad temper, I didn't understand why Rooney did that he plays with him in the on Manchester United. Also there was another player from England that pushed C. Ronaldo too and he also plays for Manchester United.

No, the ref totally over reacted. It's is true Rooney retaliated but he did so out of frustration. if you had 2 Portuguese kicking at your legs throughout the game you'd be a little mad too. A caution was all that was need Wayne Rooney is a passionate player and should not be punished because of it.

No. England's very own Mr. Potato Head didn't deserved a red card straight out, he didn't step on the other player on purpose. A yellow would've been more justified.

Absolutely - he deliberately trod on the poor guy. From the video his weight was forward - there was no reason for treading back. This 'phenom' surely knows were his attackers are in relationship to him just as knows where the ball is. whether he was aiming for the guys balls exactly is another question. Malicious agression must be a sendoff offense.

Yes, he does deserve the card because he plays like a monster, he pushes every body just to score a goal and when the ref whistles he objects... he's just stupid.
