Was it because, due to smaller breast size you were able to do so? Or was it more of a mind-set? Or something else entirely different?

I am (obviously) male, 53, and writing a novel set in the early 70's and trying to get into the heads of several of my female characters. Any open thoughts, comments, will be wonderfully appreciated.

Well it started for me in an odd way. I have very large breasts, size 44DD and I have always worn good under wire sturdy bras. They held me up but I always had grooves in my shoulders and a back ache from the weight of them being up. Well one day while getting ready for work and having to hurry cause the bus was coming down the street, I threw on my clothes, grabbed my jacket and purse and flew on the bus just as it was leaving. The day at work started out wonderful, I felt great! For some odd reason, my back didn't hurt and my shoulders felt good. I haven't felt this good in years and wondered why. During my lunch break, I found out I (forgot) to put on my bra that morning, being so rushed and all! I was mortified and embarrassed, but I realized nobody even noticed, probably because I had an opened vest on over my blouse. Well that day changed my life, I haven't worn a bra since and believe me I don't miss it one damn bit! Of course I have to always wear something over my blouses, like a sweater or vest, (to hide the jiggle of my big boobs), but it is worth it, believe me!!!!!!

I'm not sure I buy your reason, but it's original. What's the title of the books going to be? It was a mind set representing freedom/ free love. Plus it feels good not to have to wear a bra- my husband loves it still today!

I honestly think it was the smaller breast size I think it was definatly comfortable for them not to wear bras..but I am also sure that alot of people were just followers...it was like a trend like the bob haircut....lol. I love my bra lol.

I think it was a fashion thing. I remember some of my aunts wearing tank tops with no bra and they thought they were hot stuff.

it was part of the feminist movement. women burned their bras and boycotted them altogether because they didnt want the bra to symbolize something restraining women and holding them back. going commando was a sign of being unrestricted, free and powerful like men.
