No one will ever know because the blue book itself is worth more than the car!

$ 1500 is the rock bottom if it doesnt need work ( i checked out kelly blue book, 88 camaro w/v 8 , a/c, p/s in fair condition ).

But you say it needs work, that qualifies as poor condition which means it's only worth what someone is willing to pay, that could be hundreds to $0.

The trick is to fix anything you can without spending a dime.

Clean it up real nice, wash and wax it, vacume and detail it. Spray that shiny stuff on the tires and make it look like it's worth alot more than it is.

Advertise the heck out of it -
In the local paper, on the board at the corner stores and shopping center, ebay ( as a parts car it only costs like a buck or something ) call every one you know and find out who they know that needs a car. Telephone pole signs, church on sunday, co-workers,co - eds, car shows, anyone you pass on the street, etc....

When the prospective buyers come along act like you realy don't want to get rid of it because it's so awsome and has been so trouble free, and worked just fine untill it needed ______ to be fixed. Pour on the sentimental value ( first time you fell in love and got some was in this car- that kind of stuff, your best friend gave it to you before they died - stuff like that.)

Then take the best offer !

p.s. I usually wouldn't say this but if you ever thaught of praying to God and going to church, this might be the time to start.

A guide, like kbb or NADA can't possibly show you a real value for a car with an unknown amount of work needed. Also, it's not a retail piece that any dealer could use, since the mileage are year model are out of warranty and financing ranges.

The car is almost 20 years old and needs work (unknown) - you need to advertise locally, and get some independent appraisl on it, like from mom and pop used car places or private repair shops.
