Try looking for Coco Bean Husk Mulch. It smells like chocolate, which deer apparantly don't like. I live in Duluth, MN and it is working well for me and my neighbors.

Here is a great remedy to keep deer of off flowers. Mix together in a 3 gal. backpack of pump sprayer: 3 tablespoons kelp, 1 cup of fish emulsion, 3 tablespoons liquid hand soap.
Fill the sprayer ti the fill line with water. Apply on flowers that are being eaten by deer. Spray until the plants are dripping from their leaves. Repeat every 7-10 days or after a rain. Use this only on ornamental plants to avoid getting a fishy/soapy taste in your next salad. I hope this helps.

Check some of the natural horticultural sites. You can buy dried blood powder that acts as a deterrent. Anything fresh would draw rats and other predators. I've also heard of using dog hair - probably can get free at your local groomers. Bone meal has also been suggested and it is a good fertilizer for any bulb type plant.

You can get coyote urine at your local nursery. The deer won't go into your yard if they smell it. The only problem about deer is whatever remedy you use they get used to it and eventually come back. Liquid Fence works good too except you have to re-apply it after it rains. Good Luck!

I saw a company featured on MSNBC the other day called nature technologies http://www.naturetechnologies.com They apparently have a modern (effective) product that emits a frequency and (mint or cinnimon) smell to deter the deer. Although it was pricey .. about 1200.00 if I remember correctly. Apparently alot of rich people (CEO's etc...) have it for their property
