I work in a hospital, registering patients and answering the phones. Sometimes when patients come in a lot, I get to know them. Over the years I've learned to keep a distance between myself and the patients, to detatch, but sometimes one gets close to you. This happened with Emma (I can't use her real name because of patient privacy laws). She had lots of psychological and physical problems.

One night Emma came in by ambulance, delerious. When the ER finally got her all straightened out, they released her to go home. Emma had to call her parents to come pick her up and take her to her house. I had been talking to Emma when she said she was thirsty. Emma was broke, but I had a pocketful of change, so I bought her a pop. She was so grateful! A small act by me meant the world to her, simply because I was nice to her.

After that night, we would chitchat whenever she came in for labwork or xrays and such. She told me about her being diagnosed with a blood cancer (which I verified). She was so upset--she had two small children at home. What would they do without their mother?

Because of Emma's psychological problems, her psychiatrist had put her on a drug called Xanax. It's a tranquilizer. The Xanax really messed her up. She would forget things when she was on it. She would forget that she had a pot on the stove. She would forget that she had turned on her iron. She would even forget if she had taken her dose of Xanax on time. Her sister had to stay with her to help her make sense of the world around her.

One afternoon, Emma's sister had to run an errand. Emma was home alone. When her sister returned, Emma was dead in her bed. They rushed her to the hospital (that's how I knew what was going on), but Emma never woke up. Her family didn't think that Emma killed herself--she was so worried about her two little kids. Her family thought that Emma simply forgot that she had taken her afternoon Xanax, so she took another one, and another one, and another one.

After they took Emma to the morgue, I had to take the trash out. To get to the trash room, I had to walk by the morgue door. When I did, I saw Emma there, standing up, eyes open and bright, waiting for me. She said thank you for being so nice to her, and that she would miss me. Then she vanished.

When I got back up to my desk, I told my coworker about what I had seen, and we both cried and cried. I'm tearing up a little just typing this. I really do miss Emma, but I know she's in a better place now, away from her pain. I know she is watching over her children, even if they can't see her.

The first ghost I saw when I was about six years old. I've seen many ghosts, lived in many haunted places (including the house I live in now). There is nothing to fear about ghosts, they are either (1) discarnate people visiting our realm or (2) imprints of energy left behind which sensitive people can pick up on. As a Reincarnationist I know we have all been ghosts in the past and will be ghosts again, between lives.

I've never came across a ghost (spirit), but I do believe in them. Sometimes, loved ones that had passed away will visit you in another life form such has a dragon fly, I came across a beautiful white butterfly in Japan while visiting my deceased relatives (cemetry) in the Spring, but still cold outside. It was amazing and so beautiful. Also, I came across "scents" of my dead relatives. Meaning, when my grandpa was alive he used to wear this cologne and I would smell it or there was this specific smell of the house he used to live in and I would smell it. I just take it as I'm being watched over and stuff.
