Via, I'm just curious girlfriend....did you have a sewn in weave in your hair while you were growing it out? This can lead to some serious tangles. What many folks who replied dont understand is that black hair can tangle up like a piece of steel wool. And, it tangles up worse when it is wet. Click on the link below for detailed instructions on how to remove the tangle, and further instructions on how to carefully remove sewn in weaves, braids, locks, etc.... Good luck!

How did you get a fist sized knot in your hair!?! Anyway, get some No More Tangles by Johnson and Johnson or a similar product made for kids(it is for children's long hair as they tend to get huge knots as well). Spray it well, then GENTLY work at the knot with your fingers, pulling it away from the center a bit at a time slowly. If you can find the ends you can comb it a bit at a time starting at those ends and working upward. There may be some that you end up losing, but don't cut it. I mean some will come out with the combing, as you have probably already pulled some out. If you can not get No More Tangles, try a really good conditioner - one that is for long hair and for sleek or smooth, as it would be more manageable than other conditioners. Above all, be patient, don't get frustrated, as this will take time. If you have someone to help you do the above, I would recommend it, or else set up mirrors so you can see the knot as you work on it.

try VO5 hot oil treatment and leave it in and try combing while its still slick
work the knot out from the bottom up dont pull the comb from the top and just yank down. Pick through the bottom of it first and work up.
if you dont have vo5 warm some olive oil or other good quality oil. you can wash it out later. Slicker the hair the easier the knot will come out

Slowly comb out the knot starting at the bottom of it...work in small sections and work your way UP and it would be VERY helpful to have someone there to help you. If you have some spray in conditioner it would do wonders!!! Good luck!!

Get some tangle remover. I use the one for kids, made by L'Oreal.
Suave makes another detangler that I buy.
It too is for kids.
I don't know why I can't find any for adults but it doesn't matter.
They both work and smell great!
I buy them at CVS pharmacy. Walgreen's and most grocery stores in the hair care aisle.
Good luck.
I promise! They really work!

start combing it out from the outer side of the clump.
There is no way this could happen overnight so, I suggest you take better care of your hair, brush it DAILY at LEAST 3X, practice better hygene and also check for lice.
3 words for ya...
Lather
Rinse
Repeat
Oh yeah,
DO NOT go to a styling salon to have us get it out.
We don't have time for that.
We are too busy and do not want to spend an hour combing out your hair because you were inept at handling a brush.,
Too bad, so sad.

you can get de tangles shampoo for little kids that they use on there hair and then take a comb and always start from the bottom and work your way to the top don't ever start from the top bc you will make it worse and it will damage your hair even more... be patient!
Good Luck
