Early pain in pregnancy is usually the ligaments supporting your uterus stretching. I have only experienced them in my lower abdomen but I'm sure they could occur closer to your ribs. The hardening of your belly is most certainly not the baby. It's smaller than a grain of rice at this point. Early pregnancy can cause bloating, gas, and costipation though, so that is probably giving you that hardening feeling. I doubt you have anything to worry about but having had three miscarriages, I can understand your concern.

From your question, I would guess this is your first - CONGRATULATIONS!!! Naturally, put a call in to your doctor, this should put your mind at ease - more often than not, they do have you come in just to be on the safe side. Now, for the pregnant part coming from just a simple 'ol mom of three - you have to remember that your body is going through enormous changes, with the period stopping, the fetus growing, the hormones raging. It is truly a wonderful experience, so please don't let me make it sound terrible - I feel bad for men since they have NO idea what it's like to carry a baby! All this said, be sure to follow your doctor's instructions, do NOT forget your prenatal vitamins and get as much rest as possible. The first trimester is the easiest to miscarry during, so don't overdue what you normally would. Best of luck!!! :)))

Hi;
First any time you have a concern, feel free to call your doctor. If they are worth their degree, they will take time to answer your questions. If not, find another Dr. As for your pains, yes it is absolutely normal that you would have some mild discomfort, your body is growing a placenta, an umbilical cord and of course a baby. Your hormones are shifting as well as all of your organs. I recommend getting a copy of the book"What to Expect When You Are Expecting" I'm sure the library or even a used book store would have a copy. Congratulations and good luck

Sweetie, your body is going through so many changes right now there's no telling what that is. It might be something as simple as gas, or as odd as hormone changes...you should call your doctor to be sure. If your worried that there's a problem with your baby, please don't. You would be having painful menstrual cramps and bleeding if there was an issue with your little one. Go to amazon.com or your local bookstore and purchase "The Pregnancy Book" by Dr. William Sears. It's a wonderful book about what's happening to your body, what's normal, what's not, and what you can expect throughout your pregnancy. It really helped calm my fears when I was pregnant. Good luck and God Bless.

I have 3 kids, and I don't remember having much pain in the 1st trimester. I remember having a hard spot right below my belly button, and that's it. Is the pain constant or just sporadic?
Call your doctor, or call your hospital's ER and ask to speak to an OB nurse. They can tell you whether to be worried or not. :)
Every pregnancy is different, and call anytime you have a question!!

You will feel some stretching and pulling in the lower abdomen. Your abdomen will get harder as you get further along. Don't worry. If you are feeling bad pains or bleeding see your Dr. A.S.A.P. Good luck and Congrats!

I had slight abdominal pain at the beggining of my pregnancy, so I would say that it's normal. You should still let your doc know about it.

All of this is normal as long as the pain is not too strong.
