According to Dr. Thomas Hale, the world's foremost expert on drugs and breastfeeding, "Bisocodyl [Dulcolax]...has only limited secretion into breastmilk due to poor gastric absorption and subsequently limited systemic levels. Little or no harmful effects on infants." See sources section below for his specific answer to the question. You may have to sign in as "guest", but you don't have to give any personal information.

I wouldn't recommend it, unless you want to be changing an awful lot of diapers!
(Oh giggle giggle, I am envisioning this terrible sight of you on the pot with a box of diapers and a box of wipes, and the baby on the floor in front of you, because you can't get off the pot, and you-know-what all over the place!! I'm so sorry, I just watched SNL and got a little silly anyway I guess. Please forgive me...)
Maybe you could try drinking apple or prune juice, and eating bran muffins and salads? Good luck to you. Call your doctor if you want, sure, he can prescribe a stool softener or tell you if the Dulcolax is OK.

The pain killers they give you after a c-section are extremely constipating! I was nursing and they gave me stool softeners. I actually just checked the bottle, the active ingredient is 100 mg Docusate Sodium. the brand is Colace. It's over the counter stuff, that I know is safe because my doctor gave it to me in the hospital. It says to take it twice a day. So if you need relief now I would take that until you can ask a doctor.

I would not trust answers given via this medium on that subject. The reason is the scoring of activity by users. Someone who doesn't know what the answer really is might tell you something incorrect, just so he can get the points from providing "an answer." You better find something else to help you along until you can ask a doctor.

I had the same problem when my son was a baby as well. I took a dose of Metamucil and it did NOTHING for me, but went straight to my son and we had a huge mess.
Prune juice, water, high fibre cereal and get out to walk will help move things along.

"Bisacodyl (Dacodyl, Dulcolax) is a stimulant laxative...has only limited secretion into breast milk due to poor gastric absorption and subsequently minimal systemic levels. Little or no known harmful effects on infants...Pediatric concerns: None reported via milk."
i'd say that you would be ok to use it.

You can take the pill but you need to have two bottles of expressed milk ready because the two feedings you store will replace the other two you will pump out l8tr so basically no if you don't plan on expressing the milk!

I would recommend that you take an herbal laxative. Wal-mart sells them they are made of vetables. (I am taking them now) They are completely natural. They only downside is that they take 6 hours to work but they really do work when they do. These are tablets taken by the mouth.
