On average, a baby will do it between 5 and 9 months old. See sources section below.

My son just started sitting up without support (when I place him upright) & he's four months. I think the average is around 5-7 months though. There's a great book called "What To Expect The First Year" it can be found at any Wal-Mart or book store & it's in a series (WTE During Pregnancy, WTE The Toddler Years). Anyway that book is great for explaing ALL infant milestones on a month by month basis. I'd look into getting it. (I'd say what it says but I don't have my book with me, sorry!)

My baby sat exactly when she completed 7 months :) Actually what i've observed is babies try sitting after they are very well-versed in crawling..or to be on fours. As sooner or later ur baby has mastered crawling she'll sit without support
Now my little girl 10 and she walks with support :))

Anywhere from 4 to 8 months. It takes some a little longer than others. My youngest has been sitting up since she was 5 months and started crawling at 7 months.

Placed to sit at about 6 months...getting to sitting on their own is a little later about 8-9 months....but all babies are different...sitting up and crawling are considered "parallel skills" they usually learn to sit up and then begin to crawl..

It really helps when your child can not quite sit up on his own yet, but hold up his head. I think you can buy it at babies r us or target for about $30.
