The match has to be ended somehow. After playing 90 minutes plus 30 minutes of overtime the two teams have shown that they're VERY evenly matched (at least on the day in question). Continuing to play more overtime-- with or without a golden goal situation-- seems silly to the viewer and exhausting to the players. So while penalties are random-- or at least they're largely unconnected to a team's skill at playing football-- it's as good a means as any at determining the winner.

Nah, I myself don't find it the best way for match to be ended with penalties.. also i think it would be more real if the players shoot free-kicks :). You see.. in penalties everything is based in pure luck! Also, it takes a lot of concentration.. but after 120 minutes playing, i don't know which player has concentration left:).

The thing is , its not always fair, soemtimes a team play really hard during the whole game, but they lose because they missed one penalty

I think they should have free kicks with walls instead of penalties, but again, we dont make the rules
