On July 31, 1954 at 6:00 PM, Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni reached the K2 Summit. This Italian expedition consisted of 12 climbers and 4 scientists. (One 36-year-old guide Mario Puchoz died of pneumonia, contracted from high-altitude pulmonary edema along the route up to K2.)
