Question About Import DVDs?

I bought some DVDs on ebay from a reputable seller. What I bought was (American) TV show DVDs.

I was wondering what the difference was between an American DVD and an American DVD coming from the UK or China, aside from some foriegn text on the cases.

You might look for movie comparisions, it would be appropiate to check video/audio/menu quality for each dvd release to ensure you're purchasing a good item :)
