Sometimes the more you know about a person, the more you hate him. Is this ignorance or knowledge?

Hate does not require ignorance.

People hate for one of two reasons.

The first is ignorance. These might be people that grew up with a specific set of teachings/beliefs and have not had the opportunity to learn about other beliefs. It may be that they are unwilling to learn, or they are too stubborn to change, but they hate because they don't know.

The second is experience.

People will oftentimes hate because of their own life experiences. For example, they may hate traffic jams, mostly because they have experienced them and they don't like them.

The key to removing hate, at least in my very very humble opinion (and it's only that, I could be way off) is perspective.

I honestly believe that if people were willing to put themselves into the perspective of those around them, able to step into their shoes for just a moment and see life from another persons point of view, life would be very different and a lot of hate would disappear.

I find, for example, when I am impatient in a line somewhere, wondering why the checker has to be so freakin' old and slow, why people aren't writing their checks in advance, etc., that if I put myself into the perspective of those around me, it changes my entire perception.

I think to myself that the person is doing their best, they may have had a bad day, maybe their best friend just died, or their mate left them, and now they are sad and it has affected their demeanor. Maybe the older person has arthritis and hasn't had an opportunity to get to their medication, so every movement is pure pain.

Maybe they have a headache, a toothace, their feet are tired, I don't know and thus I shouldn't assume that they are doing it just because they can.

Sorry that I ranted their for a moment, but overall my answer to you is no, hate doesn't require ignorance.

Love as always,

Sebastian

I commend Sebastian S' for his answer, but I would add that some people hate not only because of stubbornity, but because they are irrational idiots, though that might not apply to all persons. But I believe it's not applied to enough of them. I'm rather tired of ignorance being used as an explanation for what simple reasoning and ethical presuppositions, such as what Sebastian S laid out, would tell an open minded person is morally wrong to believe, state and act upon to the detriment of those perceived negatively.

Perhaps some people really are just stupid or immoral/amoral and shouldn't need personal experience to know they are wrong.

Yes, I believe ignorance does play a big part in it. Also, a person thinking they are better than everyone else plays a part in it. You know, we humans think we're so high above the other animals, but look at us, we're a bunch of savages. Other animals don't hate for no reason.

Hate involves CARE.
Ignorance doesn't.
Ignorance is the lowest on the scale of humanity.

Hating does not require ignorance, but it sure does further it. People hate because they feel threatened.

You may be correct, sir!
But, I think fear of the unknown has alot to with it, too.

Can I expand? I mean why bother to hate - if the person or thing
is that bad - just distance yourself from it - hate, such a waste
of time.

people hate because of ignorance I believe. We are kind of given a set of stereotypes about people as we grow up

Yes I believe it does. But remember ... there is no hate without love ... Only indifference.
