He may have a medical problem. I would take him to the doctor and have him checked out. If he is fed and changed and still unhappy more than likely he is not feeling well. Hopefully the doctor can give you some advice if they don't find anything medically wrong. For now I would try to ask him what is wrong and maybe he can help you find out. Just try rocking him and holding him for now.

I have 22 month old daughter, and she is a sleeping champ, because I have had her on a schedule since she was about 6 months old. She wakes up between 8 and 9 am, naps at noon till 2 eats dinner at 6 and goes to bed at 8 following a bath and some cuddle time. It works fantastically for us, but maybe that's not for you. Try to make sure he's eating at the same time every day and sleeping at the same time every day. Barring a serious medical problem ( ask his doctor) my advice would be to let him learn to fall asleep on his own, (I use the cry-it-out method). This is a very difficult thing to do, but it's better for him and mommy and auntie too that he get the rest he needs. Toddlers at this age are learning about their needs vs. the way the world works, and as we all know, not getting what we want or doing what we don't want to do can be very frustrating. He needs to learn.

Hi, I would take him to your Pediatrician to find out if he has a health condition first. My oldest daughter had terrible acid reflux as an infant and what we were told was "colic" (untreatable) was actually very treatable. What are his symptoms?
If it is not a serious physical problem, have you checked to see if he is getting his 2-year molars? OUCH those ones were difficult times to get through...
Also, could be psychological if there is alot of stress in the house. Children really pick up on this. I know you are very frustrated & stressed by the crying, stay calm and try these things:
Put on soft music at bedtime
Take him for a nightime walk or at least out to get some air
If its teeth, baby orajel..tylenol...and yes...good old Whiskey rubbed on the teeth(esp. for the molars. The orajel wont do it!)
Take turns with the baby, give yourself a break to recharge.
Do not let him sleep too long during the day, do not give him too much juice as it contains high fructose corn syrup.
The early Baby Einstein Videos ALWAYS stopped the crying fits as they kinda "lull" the baby into a transe. We liked Baby Mozart and I confess to throwing it in at even 2:00 in the morning as a last ditch effort!
Remembering, babies are developing in so many ways. "2" is a trying time and this is really not un-normal. Please just check with a Dr. to rule out any medical problems for piece of mind and Hang in there...you'll get through it.
(I am a Mother of 2 small children, I have a degree in Psychology with a specialty in early childhood. And I own my own business at www.uglogirl.com - Please feel free to contact me if you need any other advice. )

When was his last bowl movement and what was it like(hard) he could be gassy, lay him flat on his back on the floor and do the bicycle with his legs, if it is gas or constipation this will help move it down! Also check him for a fever or red throat! You might want to take him in to see a Dr. You could try getting into the tub with him and giving him a warm bath that sometimes can help calm a baby!

I agree with ""Ericarosalie"" , Usually babies DONT cry for nothing, but actually they cry for some reasons. You should really check with the doctor, it could be flu too. Hey that reminds me did you guz check his nostrils and ears sometimes they have that stuff in the nose which makes it difficult to breath but naturally child knows nothing but to express his uneasiness by crying only. The best thing is to take him to doctor.

I've learned they your child will calmed down and go to sleep if you give the child your shirt that you wore for that day. The child will smell you when he/she is trying to sleep. Hope this helps.

If you have a car, put in him his car seat and go for a drive. If you don't have a car; put him in a buggy or stroller and go for a nice long walk.
