The sum of n=1 to infinity of (2^n)/(-8)
2^n means "2 to the nth power"
(Spectre's answer does not include the first term, -1/4--so his won't quite work.)

Summation means to add. So in this case it is asking you to add all the numbers. It probably is not asking for the pattern. So the answer would be: -15 3/4

I am not sure what summation means but you have a sequence that is doubling each number before it. It will continue on -16, -32, -64, and so on.
