The sum of n=1 to infinity of (2^n)/(-8)

2^n means "2 to the nth power"

(Spectre's answer does not include the first term, -1/4--so his won't quite work.)

E = Summation from N=1 to Inf.

Summation means to add. So in this case it is asking you to add all the numbers. It probably is not asking for the pattern. So the answer would be: -15 3/4

I am not sure what summation means but you have a sequence that is doubling each number before it. It will continue on -16, -32, -64, and so on.
