When do you start getting child support? I filed for divorce almost a month ago. My ex is HORRIBLE at paying bills of any kind. We've been separated for six weeks and he hasn't given me a dime! I'm barely making it with the three kids we have. He's only taken them six days (he works six on, two off) out of the past 42 and I feed them before they leave! HELP!

I used to work in child support office .

If you haven't already, you need to contact your local child support office / human resources department to complete application to initiate getting court order for child support payments.
The obligation generally begins with the date
you file application, so please don't hesitate.
Once valid child support order is established,
usually an income withholding order will also
be placed on his wages.

Hope this helped

Good luck to you

So before you filed for your divorce you two were swimming in money, right? Wow what a good mommy you are.. you feed your children before they leave the house! Don't strain your arm patting yourself on the back. Isn't it amazing how he turned into a HORRIBLE man after you laid down with him and had 3 kids! As I figure it he has had the children a little over 2/3 of the time he has had off, what is the problem with that? You probably act like a mad woman every time he picks them up and that is all he can stand seeing you. What did you expect your life was going to be like after divorcing? You have no idea what you are in for down the line honey, this is only the beginning.

Well, did you sign an agreement with your husband or did a judge order him to pay child support. Your husband should think enough of the family to pay the mortgage, electric and buy groceries, but he's probably at his wits end, too. Have you asked him to pay the bills. Unless there is some document on the record with the clerk of the court, you are at his mercy. Ask the attorney who helped you file for divorce. The money isn't going to come flowing in just because of filed for divorce. Legally, you are still married and both of you are responsible for the support of the family.

Depending on the state you live in you may get 'maintainance' between the time you first go to court and when the divorce becomes final. You won't get any child support though, until the judge issues an amount. Normally that isn't until right before the divorce is final. So until an amount is in writing and you have a copy, you don't get any.

In Pennsylvania, and I assume most states are similar, custody and support for children is not included in the divorce settlement because there are more circumstances where a need for a revision may be required. Child support is handled through Domestic Relations and an attorney is not required you just go and get the paperwork, send it in, provide the information requested and show up at the hearing.

Once the divorce is final and child support and custody papers have been signed some states will pass judgement against him to pay retro-active child support, that doesn't mean he'll do it.

There should be temporary orders of child support pending the divorce becoming final. Talk to your attorney.

you need to go to your local child support office and file it will take about a month to get it started...depending on what state you live in your might have to go to the attorney generals office..thats what i had to do in texas.but it will take affect immediately and might i recommend that you also get a visation order in affect so that he gets his stuff together either he see's the kids or not,...lay down the lay and get that money to support the kids he helped made...you may be eligible for temp food stamps and so forth check it out at your local welfare office..

Gosh, I don't know,, but I will let you know that I will be thinking about y'all . go to the gov. office for help so you can feed your kids! (until u can get on your feet)

Be sure and file on him the first time he doesn' t pay//that way he knows you mean business, and don't wait and let him get real far behind because they will put him in jail, and then how will you get money from him?????????

Give him the guilt trip of his life for being a dead beat dad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All fathers aren't to be registered in their city as dead beat dads,,,maybe a sign posted in their yard.. I bet that will make them pay and support their children instead of spending the money on trying to get a woman to come home w/ him!
