Your answer depends on the meaning of 'smart'. If smart is defined as identifying problems and solving them to financial gain that may be appropriate. Most people rely on what works for them to get what they want however, the combination of having a respectable and honest ability to obtain wealth in my humble opinion would be a better measure for pinning the term smart to. Dog eat dog is a reality. Antisocial people can viciously acquire impressive sums of money. Is this your measure of 'smart' or a sickness? Considering that many people gain financially and have no sense or morality nor ideals that would prevent legal intervention and removing said wealth. Some worship the almighty buck and nothing else. What is 'smart'? Question is, do you believe your equation of wealth = intelligence?

Some of the most intelligent people are scholars and scientists who have positions to make the world a better place, rather than to make their own pockets deeper. Many wealthy people have worked hard and saved their money, which is smart, but they may have used their brawn to make their money rather than their brain. Perhaps the secret is not to judge others.

Absolutely not. I think the pursuit of material wealth at the expense of the things that really matter like love, happiness, justice, equity and equality is not a very smart thing to do and this is the basis of everything that is wrong in the World. A very good question thankyou.

I still think wealth is a mix of luck, good connections, good health and the right circumstances. It has little to do with intelligence; it has more to do with how far you can manipulate people to buy stuff they do not need. Intelligence is not buying from any of these people because you are smart enough to stay away from things you don't need.

not really because they could have inherited it, they could have a wealthy partner or they could jus be in a job that has a high demand like a bin man or plumber. the monmey isnt really good but it isnt bad. some people are really smart but dont apply themselves so they get jobs that dont pay as much but get them by in life. not a good way to judge i dont think

No you just can't equate the two.
Some people who made it rich are there because the had people who were smart working for them.
