Greenland was discovered by the Vikings during the Medieval Warm Period between the 10th and 12th centuries, when temperatures in the North Atlantic were warmer than they are today, and the outer edges of lower Greenland were really green. No kidding.

The Vikings named them backwards so that they could have Iceland all to themselves because it was so pretty. I think they made money from selling property in Greenland too.

Greenland was named such as an enticement by the Viking leaders to draw settlers to it by making it sound nice.

I assume Iceland was named by a blind person, or maybe it was named in winter.

iceland has virtually zero trees. i think that i am correct on this.

i looked it up:
the green that shows up on the atlas is grasslands. iceland has virtually zero trees. it originally(at first settling, 1100 years ago) had many forests. the settlers cut and cleared about 99% of it. wood was used for building and fuel. they wanted the trees gone for sheep grazing also.
