it is not classified as a disease by any medical or psychological resources. It CAN be a mental disorder, if it is social anxiety disorder, but not all shyness is SAD.

Shyness usually results from a lack of self-confidence and self-esteem. If you have a problem with shyness, there are a ton of books out there to help with that. The best one I've read is "How to Be a People Magnet" by Leil Lowndes.

If shyness were a disease, half the world would have it. Shyness is part of your character. You can outgrow shyness, you can't outgrow most diseases. Are you asking because you are shy and you think there is something wrong with you? There is absolutely nothing wrong with you if you are shy.

The only thing being shy can do is stop you from enjoying life. It keeps you from making a lot friends and venturing out into the world. It does have it drawbacks. But you can change that if you wanted too. You have to take the initial step. Its not an easy thing to do, but once you make the first step, your on your way to enjoying a happy life.

Confide in someone and ask them what you can do to be more outgoing.

No, it's an insecurity. You have to find what it is inside of you that won't open yourself up to people or let them get too close to you. You'll figure it out, life's too short! Get out there and mingle with society! You'd be surprised how many different people you meet that have the same interests as you, and you run into people who know someone you know, or are from the same town you were born in. Enjoy life while ya got it, shyness isn't a disease. You don't need medicine to cure it, and you definitely don't need a doctor to diagnose you with shyness. It's something you have to work on yourself to get over this.

If you are a natural person you should try cognitive behavioral therapy. It was the only thing that has helped me with my horrible health anxiety. Read here https://tr.im/BjxJK

Your thinking determines your quality of life. Your thinking is what causes you these feelings:

Anxious, fearful, stressed or depressed
Constantly worried, or angry about something that is happening in your life
Struggling to overcome obsessive and negative thoughts.

If you change your thinking, you will change your life. This is the basic idea behind CBT for anxiety. The Cognitive part is where you learn nee methods and ways to change your same old habits and thinking patterns. If you keep thinking and expecting the worst – You will continue to suffer.

Shyness is not a disease. I am very shy and recently dated someone very shy. I actually think it is sexy. I think he felt the same way too.

No, it's a vestigial instinct left over from our hunter-gatherer days when the only strangers one encountered would be members of a rival tribe that would most likely be a threat to your tribe's control of territory and food sources.
