I think that when all men learn to cook, then all women should learn to cook. Women can not work full time jobs, and do all the cleaning and cooking. Men should do their equal share of all housework and cooking. Marriage is an equal partnership and should be treated as such.

I don't know if there is a stereotype that all women have to be able to cook, but you know what they say, " the way to a mans heart is through his stomach", well that much I can vouch for, and in that case maybe you should learn how to cook. Besides, I love cooking.

I think that the best food is cooked by someone (of either sex) who loves to cook and is in a good mood when cooking. Men often do make the best cooks. I discovered my husband's little secret after 3 years of marriage - he's actually a pretty good cook. He can only make a few things, but it's really nice when he does it. No one should be forced to cook and people who don't like to eat should never be the cooks.

Why should it always be the woman? My husband likes to cook. I think that everyone should know how to cook at least a little bit anyhow. Going out to restaurants everyday just isn't practical. My husband and I have struck a deal on cooking for the holidays. He cooks, I clean. Works great for us. I cook the everyday meals unless it's grilling....he does that. He also will do the cooking on a whim if there is something that he's craving. I have told him that unless he wants to cook he will not complain about what I make.

Women wern't nesicarly accepted into the workforce until the 40's-50's. Before then they were at home, raising the chilldren cooking all the meals while the men hunted, worked, did all the physically demanding portions of everyday life. Same with sewing, taking care of the children, cleaning. ect ect. Men can do all the stuff, and women can work just s hard as men. Now at least women have that opportunity in society.

Some women are great cooks, some men are great cooks. The stereotype does not hold true.

I agree with it. All women should be able to cook, and it wouldn't hurt men to learn either.
I may be old-fashioned, but I'm shocked at how many women my age and younger can't cook at all. As in, they can't even stir batter or boil an egg.
I think the current trend to obesity is caused mostly by eating convenience foods. It's unhealthy, and I fear for how their children will turn out.
And it's true: men do like women who know how to cook.

i hate stereotypes! Some people (*cough* guys) are so closed minded! It is not our duty to clean up after the slobs in our family and cater to everyone else! If anyone flips on the food network channel, they'll see that most of the chefs are guys! As far as I am concerned, if you can read (male or female), you should be able to pick up a recipe and follow it with proper ingredients. Anyone can cook if they are motivated to do so.

It's wrong in this day and age that women should be the ONLY person in a household to cook. I think it is very important that young men and boys learn the basics and learn to enjoy doing it. I have always found it amusing since professional cooking is such a male dominated industry.

I think it is entirely old school and any man that considers that a requirement in his girl isn't worth your time. Nowa days it seems more common to see men cooking. Either way i don't see that stereotype all that often and when i do it is usually from someone who has grown up with that understanding because of family or they are just ignorant, lazy people who are just irritated at themselves. Or maybe that's just what they want to think. Really, who knows?
