One of my favorites as a kid was a game called sardines. Basically one person hides and after a minute or two the rest of the people playing all spread out and try to find the hiding person. When you find that person you hide with him. The tactic is to hide with them such that no one else who's looking sees you which means you often spot the hiding person and then fake not knowing until the coast is clear. The last person to find the hiding person loses and has to hide next round or some other variation. The game gets a lot more fun with more people and a bigger area to hide in.

I bought a badmitton set at wal mart for about 20 bucks. it's heck of fun and it also came with some catch games and a volleyball.
When we drive, we play the game 'name that roadkill'. And counting cows, that one is pretty interesting. You count as many cows on your side of the hyway or street. If you pass a cemetary, then you loose all your cowpoints. The one with the highest number of cowpoints, wins!

Get a big bucket and one of those HUGE dollar store sponges. Fill the bucket with water (very cold is wonderful on a summer day). Play Duck Duck Goose, but actually here it is called Drip Drip Splash. Everyone sits in a circle facing one another. The person who is IT takes the sponge out of the bucket and walks with it very lightly and loosely over the heads of the players saying "Duck, duck, duck, duck" and just letting out the tiniest of drips. When you get ready, say "Goose" over the head of the person you choose and SS QQ UU EE EE ZZ EE (squeeeze!!) the sponge over his or her head! They chase you. If they catch you and beat you to the circle, you are still it. If they don't catch you it is their turn. FUN!!!
