preference given to military veterans or reservists?

I'm not saying that I think either preference are correct or incorrect but are they both not forms of discriminatory preference.

When filling out an application, along with racial and ethnic information, so too are questions about military history.

Again, I am not defending or opposing either/or however I find that they both give preferntial treatment. Two different types of discrimination, one against whites ( some would say) and one against non-veterans. Soooooooo...my question is, why don't the opponents of of AA moan about the latter.

It is a strange situation. If you are not a veteran you cannnot get a job in the federal civil service anymore. The only other candidates that get any consideration are minority women and the disabled.

Review your definition of affirmative action.

I know what you meant and the Veterans earn their benefits defending your & every one else's rights to life & freedom. They have never gotten preferencial treatment, just what they have earned.

Affirmative Action is a gift that the individual does nothing to receive. The past wrongs have ended & everyone should be on an equal playing field.

Affirmative action is not miliary (veteran's preference). It's when a non-white gets a job before a white does...like reparations.

Your race is irrelevant to your ability to perform a task. Having served in the military may or may not be relevant depending on the particular job.

Also it is less offensive to reward someone for a past accomplishment than for having certain skin pigmentation.

Affirmative Action gives preference to people for who they were born.
Millitary preference is controlled by the person (usually).
