I would say I agree with about 70-75% of the Republican platform. But on some issues, (Gay Rights and legalized Marijuana, for example), I disagree with them 100%. Would I technically be an Independant, or just a moderate conservative?

You know, Pretty_Trini_Rican , I've tried to be Libertarian at some point, but I just gravitated towards conservative policies anyway.

Look, call it stupid, but I want a label. I don't have to fit it like a glove, but I would like to call myself something. Call it a desire to belong, or something.

Because I don't believe in the Democrats' political or economic positions. I only think a few of their social policies should be enacted.

You should be independent. That is my opinion anyway. I see very few people that agree w/ any one party 100% of the time on 100% of the issues.
In the end you vote for the candidate, regardless of party, that you feel is the best. I don't think I have ever agreed with any one candidate on every issue but I surely don't vote for the one I disagree with on all or the majority of issues.
Anyway, it sounds like you are more familiar with libertarians.
**Corkie, you are correct. Homosexuals should not have 'special rights'...they should have the SAME rights.
If you want a label, call yourself a right leaning centrist. :)

Why do you care what your label is? It means nothing and seeks to pigeonhole your views into something that you aren't. Nobody is 100% with a party. In my country, I share values with the three main parties in various percentages and agree with several minor ones on some issues as well.
But, to be considered a true independent, you would have to seriously consider NOT voting for the Republicans and voting for someone else based on your disagreement over Marijuana and Gay Rights. A true independent can realistically choose between at least two major parties. In the states, that means you have to be able to vote Democratic, without holding your nose too much.
If I had to pigeonhole you, I'd say you are a moderate conservative, although how much good that does you I don't know. Unless you manage to change the opinions of those you choose to represent somewhat, how useful is that moderate anyways?

An independant is someone who doesn't want to belong to a political party. They believe they can make up their own minds. That is what defines them, not issues like gays and such.
Most liberals agree with 70% of the republican platform. They just believe in the protection of people and environment as well.
You sound like you want to belong to a party so you aren't independant. I would place you in a moderate republican or amoung the more politically "right" of the democrats.

You are a moderate conservative. All Republicans do not agree on every issue & that is okay. I have lots of friends that have different opinions but we are all Republicans. Marijuana laws are an issue for lots esp. the new Young Republicans. No problem for me since I do not even drink or smoke.

I can say about marijuana I am against it, but it does not make me a republican, as to gay rights, I am for it, I am catholic and yest still for gay rights, I believe that everyone has something that both the rep or dems have unfortunately most people vote solely on what there politaical afiliations are, that is pretty sad, since politicians today dance around whot is important and take issues like gay marriage, flag, burning and other not critical issues and use it to suck the life out of the people who follow that party, Americans need to realize that we have so many important issues that affect our country and that is what we need to focus on not , gay rights, or legalizing mariguana, what about our senior citizens, our Americans living in poverty, Aids, low wages, lack of health insurance(heck you need a second job just to pay for that) and other diseases, and just the sad state america is in

I think you would be a moderate Conservative....an Independent doesn't really identify with either party. You are just politically conservative...and not socially so. I'm pretty much the same way....that's how I define myself.

I am not a super political person, but I admire the fact that you are able to consider the issues and weigh their value in your own mind. Good for you, I think you are a moderate conservative.

Why look to label yourself?
EDUCATE yourself to know where you stand on a topic.
LEARN as much as you can about where EVERY party (even third parties) stand on issues
VOTE for the one who you agree with the most. Not many people are 100% for any party.
