Keep in mind that some extraterrestrial life may be more advanced than us. So if they know we are here, could it result in a war like "War of the Worlds"?

No its probably not wise, considering human history. Anytime an advanced culture meets with a primitive one, that primitive culture is decimated or assimilated. The question is also moot because man-made radio signals have been leaking from the Earht since the 1920's. The damage is already done.

Is there any other way to reach the ETs more than advanced than radio waves? I would venture to say that we would have to explore the final frontier (space) as Captain James T. Kirk and the rest of the Starship Federation did!

There's no reason why not. But being that it could be many years, before any aliens can communicate with us, it is sort of a waste of time. But by letting them know of us, by any means, is a very good thing to do.

What if another world treated people from this planet like the slaves were back in the 1800's?
Or if they wanted to mine our resources to take home?
We might be better off with them not knowing we were here.

I don't know if its wise or not. I doubt we are the most advanced civilization out there, so i don't know if we should make our presence known. maybe others already know about us and we just don't know about them!

I doubt there would be a war. They would just come and assimilate us, as resistance would be futile.
