South Vietnam never was a capitalist nation and it certainly was not a democracy. Such a waste.

marduk has it right, but the reason we didnt kick the french out was because we had been in Korea so we didnt want to get too involved in Asian politics more than we already were. When the French left Vietnam was separated into North and South. The commies were in the north and the north wanted to reunite Vietnam which would cause the south to fall to communism. Which would begin the "domino effect". So thats when the US and Austrailia got involved to stop the spread of communism. By the time the Paris Peace Accords were signed we had stopped the Russkies from resupplying the north by sea and the Chinese reduced their support of the north. When we got involved was when the French were fighting the commies, we provided monetary support.

We made sure that Ho Chi Minh, who wanted a Free Indochinese Democracy, was dead and gone long before we finally gave up the ghost. That way, after the Soviet-style leaders managed their powergrab in Vietnam, there would be no Democracy in the reagon. And why? Because this anti-Soviet anti-Mao pro-Democracy anti-Colonial revolutionary who used Thomas Jeffersons words in the Vietnamesse Declaration of Independence had the nerve to call himself a "Communist." In fact, he was more of a true Communist, in the vision of Marx and Lenin, then that asshole Stalin ever was. Or Krusichev, or Breshnev, or Mao Ze Dong, or the Kims, or Pol Pot. He wanted Democracy, Equality, Law, Freedom, and Peace. He helped us bomb Japan. And what did that get him? A boot in the ***, that's what!

It's more American foreign policy bu*lshit.

vietnam was not about capitalism or communism or socialism, it was about freedom.

at the beginning of world war 2 vietnam was a colony of france, when the japanese attacked the french bailed out, the tucked tail and ran like bitches, the vietnamese formed a DEMOCRATIC government of their own and fought bravely against the japanese invaders.

when the war was over the french strolled right back in like nothing had happened! vietnam begged us (USA) to get the french to leave them alone but we ignored them, so they turned to the only big power that would listen to them. China.

now we were paying attention! "ohh no! communists!" the rest is history. our short sighted dumb history. the french started that war, we did not protect the democratc regime, then we go on to spill millions of gallons of blood, sending off our young men and bringing back their lifeless corpses for what?
