Is it in the Windows/System32 folder?

If it is, you need to start up in Safe Mode and boot up in MS Command Prompt and get rid of it manually in DOS.

If youre trying to get rid of it because your spyware or antivirus detector found it, then it means a virus or spyware has corrupted that file and infected it. You shouldnt get rid of it, but you need to replace it with a "healthy" file.

Perhaps you should leave the file intact.

Or you will end up in having your version of Windows corrupted.

NTuser.dat file is created by Windows as a part of its registry, where settings of all kind are stored. In Windows XP, 2000 and 2003, NTuser.dat is stored in the users folder under the Documents and Settings folder. Each user has their own NTuser.dat file.

NTuser.dat file overrides the default user settings. Why do you want to delete the file? I assume you understood the purpose of the file.

It’s actually one of your Registry files. Unlike the other Registry files, this one is stored in your personal Documents and Settings folder and contains the entire contents of the HKEY_LOCAL_USER branch of the Registry. You can’t delete it because it’s in use and protected, and you wouldn’t want to because otherwise you’ll mess up your whole computer! It will grow as you install more software that creates keys and sub keys in this branch of the Registry, and so is perfectly normal. To summarise: leave NTUSER.DAT alone.

If its what I think it is, its a log of internet activities, (or some other activity log) on your computer. If I'm right, then you really don't need to get rid of it. Besides, it will just re-create itself everytime you do that certain activity, thats why it might seem like it never goes away.

But dude, its a text file, it can't be more than a couple MB's, don't worry about it.

ntuser.dat is a file that your computer needs to run. Don't tamper with it unless you are extremely experienced like me.
