My daughter is 11 mo. and almost 18 pounds (she was a preemie). Tonight, she puked everywhere in the car. I don't do well with puke and nearly vomited while cleaning it up. It was in the buckle, and in every little crevace you can imagine...even in the car seat base that stays in the car.
I just got done giving her a bath and cleaning up the car seat the best that I could, but it still smells, as there's probably some inside the clips and buckle. I am currently washing the fabric cover.
My question is, since she will need a forward facing seat soon anyhow, do I throw out the infant seat even though it took me almost an hour to clean, and buy the rear/forward convertible seat that she's going to need soon anyhow? And then buy a booster when she reaches 40 pounds.
Please answer quickly as the store closes soon if I should get a new one.

I would buy the convertible seat. I think that if you are going to buy a new seat soon anyway, then go for it. If you put that smelly seat in a hot car and let it heat up, the smell is not going to get any better. Good luck!

No. You should still use the rear facing one until she is 25 pounds. I know it is gross being a mom sometimes but it comes with the Job. You should just take the base out and the seat (because your washing the cover everything else should be plastic) and spray it down with the hose. Thats what I would do. If you put her in a forward facing seat, if you get rear ended then it could be a bad situation. Just think about your little beauty.

First of all, even if she was a preemie, 18lbs is too much to still be in an infant car seat. They all have maximum height and weight requirements and 18lbs is way over that. So you should have gotten a convertible car seat a long time ago. She still has awhile to go before you can put her forward facing...after her birthday and depending on which state you live in, they have to weigh over 20lbs to switch them forward. But to answer your question, no, don't throw it away, you can rinse off the pieces. But you need to purchase a new convertible car seat ASAP!

I know how you feel, my son did the same thing to me. I would say wash it as best you can and spray fabrise (however you spell it) on the whole thing even in the buckles and clips. That is what I did and it worked.
I also went ahead since he was so close it weight too and got a 3-1 car seat. It is good up to 80 lbs and it is the last one you'll have to buy. I'll attach the website so you know what I'm talking about.
Good luck, hope this helps and hope your little one gets to feeling better.

sell the other car seat and buy one of those 3 IN 1 CAR SEATS that Holds children 5 - 80 lbs in can be used as rear-facing forward-facing, or as a booster. It will save you money in the long run...plus are pretty easy to clean.

Put the plastic part of the carseat in the tub and wash it really good with a bit of Lysol. If you have OxyClean, it works great too. Rinse the seat really well. You might also try using a garden hose to wash it down. Spray Febreese on it and in the car - it really works! I've been there, done that with all three of my kids, so I know exactly how gross it is!

Hi...The car seat cover should come off easily..You can clean that and then soak the base of the car seat in the bath tub full of hot soapy water..You should buy a car seat that converts to a booster..I have one and they are wonderful...

Get a Cosco Alpha and Omega, you can use it for a while until she's over the weight limit and old enough to be forward facing and it then can be used forward facing. When she's old enough to be in a booster seat, it converts. I have 2 and LOVE them.

You could try to sell the other car seat. Then get her forward facing car seat.

Definitely get her a convertible seat, but wash the other seat. Oxyclean makes a baby variety.
