Given that God supposedly created the universe in six days, saw the world and saw that it was good and then sat back on the seventh day and Sunday was the day that he had the day of rest. Why isn't Sunday the seventh day?

Actually God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh and sanctified it and called it holy. The seventh day was the Sabbath and was Saturday. Which means that He started on the first day of the week which is Sunday. Hope that helps!

God created the world in 6 days - Sunday through Friday. Saturday is the seventh day and the that he rested. That's why weeks are 7 days long.

Why the days are named Sunday, Monday, etc. I don't know who named them or when they started calling them that.

Monday is the start of the "work week", but not the start of the entire week.

Actually, it is the seventh day. I believe it is only in North America that the week begins on Sunday. In most countries, the week begins on Monday. That's how I see it these days since moving abroad. It's silly, I know, but it seems like a longer weekend when I consider Monday the start of the week.

Bceause Jesus resurrected on a Sunday and so later on, a pope made Sunday as the first day of the week and a day in which people had to honor God. =)
