Go to the home improvement store and try to find something called wallpaper cleaner. It looks and feels like Play-Doh. If the cap is all cloth, you can clean it in the top rack of any dishwasher. Allow it to dry thoroughly, shaping the brim as it dries.
The Mr. Clean sponges that clean everything are good too--use it dry rather than wet.

dish liquid and an old tooth brush should get it clean, just remember to put the hat through the gentle cycle in the wash machi\ne when you are done to get the detergent out since it will turn colour in the sun.

You can wash your hat in the dishwasher (rinsed dishes are ok in there with it too) or try scrubbing it with some detergent and a tiny bit of bleach and a scrub brush. My partner does both to his hats.

you can try washing it in the washer with all your dirty clothes...
or you can use the shoe cleaner and brush it off...
another suggestion is that you get an old toothbrush that you don't use anymore [make sure it's clean] and use MiLD soap and water.
