Low self esteem.
I don't care...I mean I want my friends to be genuine, but I'm often not my true self at work. My friends know who I really am and so does my husband. I guess people wear different hats if they are uncomfortable. I just worry that if I'm myself at work people might think I'm a slacker.
I have no idea if I answered your question...I mean I think people should be who they are and not conform unless you are at work. Make sense?

I have never felt compelled to change a thing about myself to suit anyone else. With me what you see is what you get. I have always been happy with myself and never felt the need to fit in. Why the heck do I want to be a clone and look like everyone else? Individuality and self expression is so much better. It is like how crazy people have gotten about plastic surgery. I feel sorry for these people. When you die, those altered looks arent going with you and God doesnt care what you look like.

Changing to be liked doesn't mean you have to take away a person's individuality.
Whenever you find a person you like, you find out how they are, and what they like in a person. If you like them enough you try to change for them. And they do the same for you.
Usually the change is very small. Not like, change your hair style, put braces on, and buy only one type of perfume, change. More along the lines of, quit biting your nails, maybe dress a little nicer, try to be a little more flirty, type of change.
Change can be good.

There is a limit that sometimes is very hard to distinguish, the one between submission and adaptation. For some people, like me, that is something almost impossible to see. I have a personality,a strong one, but i prefer to suffer than dealing with the problems of a non-adaptation. In the end, it's all about self esteem...

I think that it's because when you are different, people sometimes make fun of you. What you don't realize is that more people will ADMIRE you for being different and original. So if you are brave enough to stand the few people that will make fun of you, then you can enjoy the benefits of being admired by everyone else! By the way, the people who make fun are just jealous because they want to be different too, but are just too afraid!

Not everybody is like that, just some people. And to be honest with you, we all have a little bit of that insecurity of wanting to be liked inside of us. Especially how society is nowadays pushing ideas of how you should look and behave to be normal, liked, and to fit in. But i agree, being an individual and being yourself is the best!!

Sadly, SOME people DO have to change to be liked.
I'm not going out on a date with some guy with a criminal record or is a pervert.
I can't like a person that rapes women and children.
Unless they change and DRASTICLY, not too many people WILL like them.

Not everyone feels that way. I think it's human nature for someone to want to please others. People tend to be self concious and don't want to be talked about or made fun of. It is just a lack of confidence.
Individuality is a great thing, but some people just do not have the confidence to want to be themselves
If I have to change myself to please someone, they can just take a hike, they are not worth my while, they can take me or leave me.

Because there is many haters out there that make people that are ugly and nerdy like me feel so depressed that we want to kill ourselves with so much teasing. So we feel we need to get transformed to be accepted into this world or else just die. There is no other choice. Die or get accepted.

I agree. People are so involved with fashion, makeup, beauty and stuff that they think they have to be like someone cool to be cool. That is just wrong. People SHOULD want to be an individual, that's a very good quality.

People form into what is considered 'normal' because of pressure. I can't answer for anyone else, but I do care about being my own person.
