Canada has marijuana laws but they are VERY rarely enforced.. unless it is a large scale operation known to be transporting across the border to the US.. same goes for holland/the netherlands.. it is legal to buy and smoke but only for personal use in small quantities..
as for the question.. as soon as the govenment realizes how much time energy money and effort would be saved by legalization.. they could tax it beyond belief like tobacco and alcohol.. so not only would it save the goverment money from the cost of law enforcement and court costs and housing all the jail population of people caught with a joint in their car.. it would create a viable source for extra revenue on a national level.. wake up already .. dumb dumb politicians .. and I don't even smoke it! Gave that up a long, long time ago.

When the government stops thinking about the 38,000 vehicle accidents by teens while under the influence of marijuana in 2001.
I have no problems with the idea of using medical marijuana by non smoking means or legalizing Industrial Hemp since that has no drug content. But legalizing marijuana could mean more motor vehicle accidents if marijuana use increases.

I don't know, man..sometimes it seems like a long period of time, sometimes it goes by really fast.
Seriously, the political environment right now doesn't seem too keen on legalizing marijuana...I don't see it happening any time soon. Though I've thought since the late 70's that the government could be making a lot of money by legalizing it, and putting a tax on it. An awful lot of money.

It will never happen in this country as long as tobacco companies such as RJR continue to dominate financial politics.

A long, long time.
It's legal in Canada and Holland, isn't it?
Why don't you just move there?
