I imagine since the lease is a legal document he might have to have an attorney type it up. Maybe he has to pay the attorney to do it. For whatever reason thell the couple moving in that there is a $100 move in fee due to the landlord. Thats a lot cheaper than 1st or last months rent.

It comes down to yes, they can. It's not about the specific people, but the fact you have extra people in there. Unless nothing was stated about people living in the apartment, you're playing around with the contract - it was made for the original tenants, not whoever ends up being in there with them. However, seeing as I'm sure what you're saying is a very small piece of the situation, it's hard to say what exactly is wrong and right.

in this lovely country of ours, people can try just about anything they want and if nobody challenges them, they probably will, legal or not, no matter where you live. Your state or nearby university have a law assistance dept to help answer your questions free of charge, so look them up in the yellow pages and they should help you out whether it is good or bad and if you have a legal leg to stand on good luck1

Landlord can change rent whenever they deem necessary, as long as you are not in a lease. Lease being a contract for a specifi amount of time (i.e. One year Lease).

Depends where you're from I guess. Up here in Quebec, nope. You must have a association or something that governs that kind of civil law. Call them.
