I have reconsidered my answer:

A repeated message has the power to influence people, as anyone in advertising or politics knows.

MM's music is dark and gloomy and hopeless (which I guess is the appeal). Repeated listening will have a cumulative effect on any person's psyche, not enough to drive a normal person to murder, but for a pair of social misfits with a deathwish and a love of violent media...

The music is not the entire reason, but it is surely a contributing factor.

And pointing this fact out is not the same as a call for censorship.
