We have a boy who will be 3 and 1/2 years at the wedding date. He is reserved, calm, intelligent, but we don't understand when more than less the age where precoccious kids can get the job done in a large setting. Any insights?

Every child is different so it is not an age thing. Make sure he has a good nap, and something to eat before the wedding. It probably wouldn't hurt to practice a little with him too. I know one little girl (flower girl) 4 yrs old that got mad at her mom right before the ceremony and marched down the aisle with her full basket of flower petals and dumped them at the end. Kids are unpredictable, and you will just need to go with the flow on your special day, I am sure it will be fine, just take it all in stride, it adds a little personality to your ceremony when things are not "perfect". Best Wishes!

I've read articles about this stating that children under six can be risky serving as a ring bearers as they can be pretty unpredictable, no matter how many rehearsals take place. Once the church is full they tend to bolt. I've witnessed this phenomenon several times. They become confused and run out crying. Of course each child is different, but you never know what a youngster that age is going to do. The sad result is that the child feels like he has let every one down.

I think he's old enough. At the weddings I've been to they had
ringbearers his age, some may have even been two.
