Because they are the Cubs.

I don't think that the Chicago Cubs sucks. I think that they are a good team, but I think it just luck that there lacking. The Cubs saw two promising pitchers in Kerry Wood and Mark Prior and they probably put one good season for them, but as you know, injuries has haunted them and they were never the same. People say they were suppose to contend this year with the emergence of Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Juan Pierre, and Michael Barrett, but as I said , injuries has haunted this team and there was nothing that they can do to prevent this from happening. This year was a combination of injuries, suspensions, and "down years". Lee broke his wrist (I think) and put him in the shelf for several weeks, Barrett (the only person carrying this offense) got suspended, and Ramirez/Pierre are having a "down year" (struggling this season w/o injuries). Matt Murton was suppose to be the guy saving the Cubs after he batted .321, 7 HR, 14 RBI last season, but now he's platooning with another outfielder. Jacque Jones is not living to his expectation this year. Of course, the annual Wood and Prior stay on the DL has hurt this team, forcing Zambrano and Maddux to hold on to this weak rotation. Zambrano has been a bright spot but Maddux is starting to decline as the ERA is going up (not the same Cy Young pitcher he use to be). I respect Dusty Baker for doing his job as a manager, considering that he had to see all this bad luck happening to him, and could be fire anytime soon (which I hope doesn't happen). People say it's a curse but I don't believe in curses, rather it's just luck that there lacking. They are a good team that just can't catch a break since that "Steve Bartman" fallout (one out away from a first trip to the World Series in century to an early vacation in one game). Overall, if they can past their "demons", they can contend for the WS in the near future.

The Cubs suck because despite the fact they never win, they always pack Wrigley Field. There is no need for management to field a competitive team. I know this is short but it is the honest truth and any other answer you will get (lousy players, bad trades, etc.) goes back to this fact.

They also need to rid themselves of Wood and Prior.

The cubs do not suck, they play hard every game, just because they are not winning does not mean they suck! No excuses! its not bartman, it's not the goat, its not lack of heart or effort, it just is not their year. I love my Cubs and I will always have faith
