Sound requires a sender and a receiver. If there is no receiver, there is no sound.

The squirrel, the tape recorder, etc are receivers. If nobody is around to hear it, there is no sound.

sound is just vibration until it is interpreted by a brain and "translated" into a sound.

So it makes a big vibration, but without an ear to recieve the sound, and some cerebral interpretation so somebody's brain interprets the sound, is it really a sound? Or just vibrations.

Some people would contend that it is only a vibration until it gets translated into sound by eardrums and brains. thats why so many people ask the Q.
