Infertility means you can't have kids *right now*. It could change or be treated. For instance, if you are taking the Pill, you are infertile. If you stop, you will usually be fertile within a year. It's also not always absolute. For instance, a man should have a sperm count of 20 million. If, instead, it's 1 million, he's infertile, although technically he *could* get his wife pregnant, it's so unlikely as to be considered medically impossible. The same is true of a woman who is relatively infertile. She may be ovulating only once a year, and, since it typically takes up to 13 cycles for a fertile woman to get pregnant, 13 cycles for her could be after menopause...but it's still *possible* that she would get pregnant the first time she tries.

You are diagnosed with infertility if you have been unable to conceive a child after 1 year (under 35) or 6 months (over 35) of unprotected sex. Its not exacty barren, but basically means that you have difficulty conceiving or carrying a baby to term. There are millions of women with infertility that are able to eventually conceive.

Infertility means not fertile. Does it mean you can never have children. It is hard to say, reproductive medicine has come a long way.
