867-5309 was the phone number of an ex-girlfriend of a member of Tommy Tutones band. That's who the song was written about.She had a restraining order issued against him and went to court to force the removal of the song from the airwaves. There were so many harassing phone calls to people holding that number that the number is unassigned in most areas. One owner of the number in New York auctioned it off on E-Bay. 212-867-5309

That phone number, 867-5309, is supposed to be one of the most well known numbers in the world, because of the song. And if I remember correctly, it was a one-hit-wonder by the group that sang it - can't remember who, exactly, but I'm sure a web search would answer it quickly.
