it doesn't happen all the time but when it does it paralyzes my head and I can't move it for a couple of seconds, it happens to my mother I was just curious if there is a scientific explanation for it

your brain stem is at the base of your head in the back....when you jerk your head too much...the pressure and tension put there will make it hurt.

Definitely don't jerk your head! I used to get the hair out of my eyes that way and was kindly reprimanded by my chiropractor as a little girl. Nerve damage also comes to mind if you are feeling that sensation. Just try to be careful...neck damage is painful!

It's called a contrecoup brain injury and it occurs when your brain contacts the back of your skull secondary to the jerking motion of your head. My advice would be to stop doing that before you have the IQ of a termite.

I know why! It happens to me sometimes. And I think I know why it happens. When I working, I am working with computers it happens when you are sitting long time with computer, so try to not sit much time with computer.

If it hurts, I would go to the doctor, you may have fracture a bone or something else might be wrong.

because your moving your brain and it may be hitting your skull or you are pulling a muscle when you turn your head
