It has to do with language corruption such as that taking place in the ghettos of America. Have you heard of Da man? How about Da ho? Well, somewhere along the line someone thought it would be cute to say "fada" instead of "father" and so "daddy" which is half of "fada" or "fadda" came to be.
Mr. M on Dad.

Because the powers that were and are decreed it to be so. Furthermore, Dad is short for Daddy, as Mom is short for Mommy. "Daddy" and "Mommy" are pet names for mother and father.

Probably for the same reason that numbers are wierd. (The English language as multiple inconsistancies.)

for 44 we say FOURty FOUR right?
for 66 we say SIXty SIX..

why don't we say for 11 ONEty One?
or for 22 TWOty Two?
or for 33 THREEty Three?

I rest my case.

This is really cute but we must take into consideration peoples feelings and even though society stipulates so much on how women look and gain weight it might offend your dad if you call him fat. Smiley

Because another, more common name for Father is 'Daddy'. It is also the name babies usually use first to refer to their male parent.

i guess, fathers are generally the disciplinarians - the final resort...it's like "do something wrong and you're "dead!" " - that kind of stuff..probably it derived from the word "dead" as in "you're definitely gonna get a caning from your father"..so some1 decided to omit "e" and came up with "dad" to describe a father...

just my two cents worth.:)
