A lot of people are trying, but we unfortunately have an administration in power right now that doesn't want to do anything about it. Don't worry, that will change this fall when the other side takes over the other part of government.

Until then you can do things to help out. Check out http://www.climatecrisis.net and see all of the little things you can do to make a difference. There is an awesome list on there of exactly what you can do in your everyday life to help fight global warming.

Also, encourage others to make a difference too.

Edit:

The people posting that it isn't a real, or man-made, problem are wrong. All of the below are government websites about how we created global warming and how we can fix it. Education is the way to fix our problem - pretending its "natural" is ignorant, lazy and wrong. Just look at all of the GOVERNMENT websites below describing how this is a problem we created and a problem we can fix.

NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) on why Peer-Reviewed Journals are the only real scientific studies to be believed: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/globalwarming/peerreview.html

The EPA's site for KIDS: http://www.epa.gov/globalwarming/kids/index.html

From NASA:

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Library/GlobalWarming/

The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program is an important part of the U.S. Department of Energy's strategy to understand global climate change:

http://education.arm.gov/studyhall/warming.stm

http://globalchange.gov/

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/climate.shtml

http://marine.usgs.gov/cgi-bin/locator?selected_topic=14&selected_region=n&se...

http://www.usaid.gov/our_work/environment/climate/

http://lwf.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/globalwarming.html

All of the above are government websites about how we created global warming and how we can fix it.

Just to state that again: the Environmental Protection Agency, NASA, The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Program, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, the Marines and every other single government agency already has solutions to fix the problems that we created. Who are you going to listen to, the Scientists that work for every government agencies or a couple of politicians with an obvious connection to oil?

PS I exclluded all peer-reviewed journals, scientific magazines and other news sources so that you have to argue directly with the findings of every single government agency we have. Good luck.

PPS The other guy who quoted a NASA website found a 5 year old, outdated page that doesn't have any of the new findings listed on it. That is what these people do - they use either bogus science or outdated studies.

Many people are trying, that's why lots of countries signed the Kyoto accord. The United Sates didn't sign because the big guys said that it was "economically irresponsible".

It is a tricky subject, but we are definitely affecting the health of global ecosystems.

Here are a few things that everyone can do to help:
1. Walk or bike to school/work.
2. Turn off the lights when you are not using them.
3. Install a programable thermostat so that you don't heat or cool the house when nobody is home (or turn off the heat when you go out and put it back on when you get back).
4. Buy fuel efficient cars.
5. Buy local produce if possible (less driving was needed to bring it to you).
6. Reduce, reuse and recycle paper because having trees out there reduces the amount of CO2 in the air.
7. Turn down the heat on the hot water tank.

Curiously, all of these things will also save money, but few people do it.

Global warming isn't a thing one can stop. We can do things that may decrease damage to the ozone, which would stop..slow down or shrink any holes in the ozone. Now the people who said that global warming is due to the hole in the ozone...have recently found that the hole is decreasing in size and that by the year...oh hell forget the year but several years from now it should be just about closed. If you have noticed that air polution is one of the main cause for ozone damage than you'll notice why thier are certain test your car has to pass to be driven. People have been doing things to prevent global warming as best as we can...but the trueth of it is...the planet will do what it wants when it wants, if it wants to warm up than it will and there is nothing we can do about that.

Humans have been trying to play God for millennia and it doesn't work. You can not control nature. All of the scientists agree that we may be in a global warming trend but they differ in whether it is man caused or just the natural cycle of the Earth. We also have only been studying the temperature of the Earth since the last mini ice age so we might be moving back to a warmer period in the Earth's cycle. Plus most scientists believe that there is an ice age every 10,000 years and we should be entering one any time now.

That's a very complicated question. The answer is that there are many people trying to stop Global Warming, but to stop it requires the cooperations of many nations working together. And there are economic considerations as well, because most countries burns fossil fuel and their economies are dependent on it. It isn't going to be easy or CHEAP to make the necessary changes to stop using fossil fuel. This applies to the United States as well as China or India.

In addition, there are many things that we each can do as our part to help stop Global Warming, like drive hybrid or electric cars, use solar power instead of gas and coal, reduce the amount of garbage/waste we create, etc. etc. But many of us are accoustom to a certain life style, and it is very hard for us to change too.

So there are plenty blame to go around. The question is what are you going to do about it?

Global warming has little to do with human activity. Why else is Mars experiencing global warming as well? It all has to do with the cycle of Earth and some anomalies on our sun. Here is info from NASA:

Where have you been they are trying. Look at the news, start doing some reading, get an education.

There are many facets to global warning, it is not a simple fix and everyone has to be willing to give something up. And a lot of people just won't do it.

One is that it would mean changing our way of life. People are loathe to do that.

Another reason is money; it's cars and factories that are the main component in creating greenhouse gases--and also the main components of many economies.

We take out insurance because there's a miniscule chance that our house will burn down. If there's even a miniscule chance that this is real, we have to do something about it.

Because we aren't causing it. Global warming and cooling has been the norm for 5 billion years. It isn't anything new.

Lots of people are, just not many Americans. Why? Because we have been lied to by our government and our big companies. President Bush was bought and paid for by the Oil Industry and so he is doing their bidding. They care more about money than the future of the planet. Sad.
