the original rhythm guitarist and lyric writer, Richey James Edwards, went missing in February 1995 and hasn't been heard of since (unless you read into various conspiracy theories...biggest that have been followed up by the police are when he was spotted in Goa and on the island of Fuertaventura...). James Dean Bradfield (or Grandad Bradfield to me...) has always been the lead singer and he's definitely not vanished from the face of the earth....right at this moment in time he's probably down the pub...

James Dean Bradfield is the lead singer of The Manics. He always has been as far as far as I know. Richie Edwards was their rhythm guitarist who wrote the majority of their lyrics in the early days of the band. All the band members were childhood friends. James and Sean (the drummer), are cousins. Apparently, Richie could barely play guitar. About ten years ago, he went missing, took a sum of money from his bank account, and his abandoned car was found near a bridge in Wales. He hasn't been seen since. The band are all Welsh. Because he has been listed as missing for over ten years, he's assumed to be dead. The're have been numerous sightings of him, from various people, from all parts of the world. From what I've read, he was a deeply troubled soul. He suffered from anorexia, the first time I've ever heard of a male suffering from this. He also supposedly practiced self mutilation. An NME journalist (uk music magazine New Musical Express) once interviewed him backstage after a gig and mentioned to him that the band were not true to themselves. In his words they weren't "For real". Richie calmly pulled a razor blade from his pocket and carved the words "For Real" onto his arm. I've seen the pictures. He really did this!. The Manics continued on, with Nicky Wire, their bass player writing the bulk of their lyrics. Richie is now officially confirmed as dead, as his body has never been found. Motorcycle Emptiness is their best tune. Classic song. Tragic story.

Nope, he's doing some solo stuff at the moment. Album is out on July 12th I think, and the first single is "The wrong way to lie" or something along those lines.

If you mean Richie Edwards, I dunno. Rumour has it that he leapt off the Clifton suspension bridge, or he may have done a "Reginald Perrin" and is now living in South America under a pseudonym. (He might even be having a few jars with Lord Lucan as we speak.)
