I can't figure it out, there is always something that someone wants more of. Food, material things or relationships. But the majority of the time the person should be happy with what they have. Why do people always want more? You can take this question from any perspective~relationships, gluttony, etc.

That seems to be the American way, Not for me though. I like to keep it simple that way i have very little stress, I am not i dept because of my way of thinking i do not own credit cards, If people would keep it simple they would be a lot happier. Not in dept. I do not know why Americans think they need everything, and always bigger too!! Take a look at other countries, They do not base their lives around material things. And they are content. And happy too. Also This country pushes it on Americans that you have to have anything and everything and they believe in the hype. They really think that they need this stuff to be happy but it does not make them happy so they buy more. Vicious Circle.

That is a great question. It is probably the most important question a person can ask themselves.

We all have so much, and yet, we yearn for more. Usually, the yearning is a good thing, because it leads to new discoveries and ideas. The yearning to be happy seems to come from insecurity and low self-esteem. We cannot accept ourselves and our situation, and so we become unhappy, and start looking outside ourselves to find someone or something to "make us happy".

That can never happen. Until each of us realizes that we are the only ones who can makes ourselves happy, the yearning never ends.

I think that sometimes people are just emotionally in the mind set of negative. Probably became that way as a result of trauma or drama in their childhood. I work with this lady who barely says hi before she launches into some complaint about something. I try to live live as cheerfully as I can which drives miserable people absolutely nuts. It's ook.. I'm not gonna get miserable just because they are. They are not gonna break me of the parts of me that I like best about me. The ultimate revenge is to stay happy and cheerful and try to make someones day by putting a smile on their face and ignore the captain negatives of the world.

Material possessions, money, whatever. It don't mean anything if you don't have control of your life and feel grounded. When it seems like you can never control at least some part of what happens to you in life, then life just sucks! If someone seems that way to you, understand that it may not be their choice to be that way. I'll never understand why so many people seem to think that what works for them in life { attitudes, career choices etc. } should certainly work for the person standing next to them.

The four noble truths are :

Because they always want something they can't get. Take 50 cent's slogan 'Get rich or die trying'. Is what people want actually worth dieing for?

The Buddhist response is the four noble truths.

1. Life is suffering
2. Suffering is caused by desire
3. Suffering can be alleviated by avoiding desire
4. Follow the eight fold path to achieve unattachment (or lack of desire)
