The absolute worst car is a Yugo. But, they're not made any more.
The first Hyundai's were awful, too. Hyundai has cleaned up their act very nicely. A good quality car at a good price. Hyundai owns Kia, now. Also a good investment. If you don't believe me, check out the JD Power survey results. Hyundai beat out Toyota and Honda.

Most any new car, today is better than the best car made 15 years ago.

Tom and Ray (the Tappet Brothers from NPR's "Car Talk" had a list of horrible cars.

I had/have 3 of the cars on the list!
1st car I bought: '77 Ford Pinto
sold it for more than I paid!
1st car I bought in Las Vegas, NV: '80 Plymouth Volare Donated it to charity after driving it for 5 uneventful years
Still have the '72 VW Van!

My wife bought a Yugo new in 1986. Lousy car. She was lucky because it was hit head on and she walked away.

Check this out, someone said ford anything. Thats not true. If its a f150 or up its cool. If is a mustang, its real cool. So the ford comments wasnt correct. However, if the parts for the car have never been heard of before, then thats a bad car you shouldnt buy. to tell you the truth, If you trying to buy a used car, it depends on the car itself and what you intend on doing with it. Has it been in accidents? What type of maintenance has been done on it? Is it just a starter car or do you plan on having it for a while? these are questions that you must ask yourself and the person you are buying the car from. Also, you can look up vin numbers on used cars to see their history as far as accidents and things like that. You can do that online.

It depends on how much you buy it for. If you buy a new Ford Taurus (an obvious peice of junk) and try to sell it a couple years later after moderate use, you will surely loose most if not all your investment. But if you're the smart person that buys that same Ford for a thousand bucks then you can't really loose. Drive it till it dies. I think most American cars are disposable, like disposable razors. Use them, then throw them away, or sell them for peanuts. The morons that keep buying these junky cars year after year because of patriotic or other reasons don't know that much of the parts are manufactured in China and that they are supporting a business regime that's riddled with engineering flaws, safety leaks, and forever stuck in averagedom. Definitely not the model for America.

Working in repair shops for 25 yrs -- I would rate these cars are poor purchases due to cost to maintain / repeated problems -- If you like to spend money buy one of these vehicles used ..

New year design cars --(first year of production such as style changes , engines ,etc)

Audi and many newer VW --fun to drive but many repair issues

Powerstoke Diesels - a money fit

A lot of General Motors vehicles -

Jaguars -

IMHO Japanese cars are the best deal - Honda, Toyota ,are the greatest cars built - Accord and Camry are my first choice at any price

Korean cars are not up to snuff yet
