If it's a white cotton hat you can wash it in a mixture of half powdered dishWASHER detergent and half laundry detergent. You might also add a half-cup of liquid chlorine bleach. Dry it in bright sunlight.
This method will not work if the hat has polyester in the fabric. For part or fully polyester whites, dishwasher detergent alone will whiten them. Do not use liquid chlorine bleach--use an oxygenated stain remover such as Oxy-Clean or Clorox 2.

Hats come out great in the dishwasher - especially if you use one of those plastic frames to keep it in shape. They say you can put that thing in the regular washing machine too, but it gets really beat up & broken after a time or two. In the dishwasher it doesn't get spun around & banged, so it does a better job & lasts longer. Plus, the water in the dishwasher gets hotter than you could ever get your washing machine water.

You have to be careful, what kind of fabric the hat is. You can use a stain stick, or something like Shout. If you do decide to put it in the dishwasher, then I'd suggest that you only put it on the top shelf. Good luck to you........

I have heard of putting hats in dishwashers, never have tried it. Make sure you fasten it on the top rack.

I bought a plastic thing made to wash hats. You put the (baseball hats) hat on it, close it and toss it in the washer with your clothes. Take it out and I hang it in the sun to dry. Nice, new, fresh hats!

You can also put dishwasher detergent in your washing machine. Phosphates used to be in detergent, which is what really made our whites white.
Phosphates are still in dishwasher soap.
