There are enough other stores like Wal*Mart that the economy would not crash. Around here, there's Target, Shopko, Fred Meyer, WinCo, Albertson's, and all kinds of other stores that could substitute for Wally World. People would still spend money, just not at Wal*Mart.

When we were very strapped for cash and when I had to shop at night a lot, Wal-Mart was a very big help (as well as Kroger grocery store) because they were the only major stores open all night long.
Now, I try to mix it up and spread the wealth to different stores in my community. Where I live there are lots of good stores.
It is definitely not healthy for the economy if we all only shop at Wal-Mart and don't try to shop anywhere else.
But I don't think that the economy would crash just from not shopping at Wal-Mart.

First off, the economy would not crash, but Wal-Mart itself would probably lose like $2 bil. I work at Wal-Mart, and maybe if the customers weren't so damn rude and inconsiderate, I'd be more happy to help them. You think I like being over-tired, over-worked, and under-appreciated and under-paid? I get no health care from Wal-Mart, I get no incentives from Wal-Mart. On any given day, I am covering all of softlines. That's right, I mean: Ladies, Mens, Childrens, Infants, Shoes, Crafts, Jewelry, Accessories, AND the phone.
And, might I add, if you're looking for Scotchgard in Wal-Mart, why would you ask the girl at the Jewelry counter. I don't know what Scotchgard is, or where you'd find it. I'm not information central. That's what the service desk is for. And maybe, just maybe, if y'all weren't so rude to everyone, and returning merchandise and getting refunds on things that you've been using for over a year, the costs wouldn't be going up so much, and employees wouldn't be so stressed out that they were quitting left and right, and then maybe, just maybe, if they could keep employees, the ones that are left, they'd be able to answer your questions. But because of the high turn over rate, most people lasting only a couple of months, that's why no one knows where to find anything!
People think that just because you work for Wal-Mart that they can **** all over you. I don't understand WHY this is. It's not MY fault that I work for Wal-Mart, and we don't have any other department stores within a 50 mile radius. So please, even if you hate Wal-Mart, don't take it out on me when you come to my counter, if you hate it so much, just don't shop there. You don't have to go online and rant about it.

This won't cause the stock market to crash, but the stocks for Wal-Mart would go down tremendously until either Wal-Mart went Bankrupt, or people started shopping again. We still have other shops that would take care of selling the products.

I hate Wal-Mart! I never shop there unless I have to I absolutely cannot find the item anywhere else.
I boycotted them for several reason:
1) Have you seen the episode of Frontline about it? (If not check out the site at the bottom---you can see the full show online. There is another documentary available on DVD about it too, which I have not seen entitled " Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price" by Edith Arana, Red Esry, Rev. Altagracia Perez, and Donna Payton. Supposedly Wal-Mart attempted to have it stopped but was not able to. I do know people that work there tha were instructed not to watch it.)
2) extremely poor service. If you go in there looking for something, you can never find it & if you ask someone that works there they send you on a wild goosechase before you find out they do not even carry it! Last time I was in there, I went for two items, it took forty-five minutes & I was not able to get either one of them! One of the items [Scotchgard] they did not even know what it was! Then I lost money in the soda machine, but the line for customer service was wrapped all the way around to the corner of the store, filled with people wanting to make returns. I asked a manager if they could help me & they said waiting in that line was the only way to get my money back. They only had one of three counters open, but there were several employees just standing around gossiping. The manager could have at least sent people over to open the two other counters so people did not have to wait so long. I have had several similar instances when the employees are unhelpful. I work in customer service & it just makes me so mad that I bend over backwards to help my customers but that it is extremely difficult to get good service when I go somewhere. Like, when you ask their employees if there are any in back---they do not even check. They just say the do not. Or when you ask where something is and they say "If it's not over there I don't know where it is" .
3) Lack of selection. In most cases they only carry one name brand & their housebrand & the namebrand carried is not the one I use.
4) Some items (especially the clothes) are low quality. We used to call them "Wal-Mart-fall-a-parts growing up.
5) I can almost always find stuff cheaper somewhere else. I do not know why everyone thinks they are so cheap!
There is another reason, too but I will not go into it.
(Sorry for any typos, spell check was not working.)

More than just that really. Consider that fact that they have stores worldwide, including different branches (Sams Club, etc.)
It would probably affect local business as well because people are going to shop some where. Even wall street would be affected because Walmart has a stock. It would be an epidemic financially, causing them to shut down in the end. in other words it would be devastating, and at the same time a little humorous

well if they stoped one day, not much, but if they started shoping at smaller home owned stores that bought mostly american made products, the economy would skyrocket and we would be begging mexicans to come to the US since we would not have enough people to fill all of the jobs

I would take that chance. I quit buying from them nearly 2 years ago (merchandise fell on me and now they won't pay my doctor bills). Even though we are in the category of "poverty" I manage to survive without them quite nicely, plus I get to know the local small town merchants, you know, the ones who are local residents and keep the money circulating in our community instead of shipping it off to Arkansas?
