Because they need to believe in something that gives them comfort in their times of need & Father has always represented strength in a traditional American Family family. The Bible holders say that Jesus is the son of God, therefore strengthing the belief that God is a Father figure. Actually, the word GOD has been misrepresented through errors in translation of the original texts. The Aramaic wording translates GOD as a he/she entitiy/power source that has no sex, but represents ALL LIFE.

Because God made Adam in an image of himself. Adam was a man so God made a man. A woman was more challenging so she took a little longer.

The qualities that people attribute to God remind them/are associated also with male qualities/characteristics. Thus, the 'Him'. I'm not saying it's right. Just that's how it happened.

As children of God, we have to have a Heavenly Father. If you have faith in Jesus Christ, you also would see how the Lord's Prayer is directed to Our Father who art in heaven.
