These types of messages are usually generated by marketing firms who are collecting email addresses to be able to spam you. What happens is some marketing weenie comes up with some story to tug at your heart strings or make you laugh or promises you undying love or perpetual wealth if you send the message on to others. What happens is that email will get forwarded and forwarded and forwarded and eventually will end up getting to one of many accounts that maketing weenie has set up. What he then does is cut and paste those email addresses and fill your box up with all sorts of porn and credit card offers and he also probably sells the list to other marketing weenies so you get even more spam. Every time I get a message like this from one of my on-line connections, I hit REPLY ALL and send the following email message to all the same people who received the original message:
Please do not send me things like this. Despite how
wonderful the advice, how awesome the prize or how
shocking the news, please do not ever forward me
anything that asks to be forwarded. Messages like this
are created by little marketing weenies whose job it
is to collect valid email addresses so they can later
be sold to companies who like to fill your emailbox
with adds for porn (which I sometimes do not mind so
much), online gambling (no thanks), penis enlargement
miracles (how'd they know I need that?) and all sorts
of other pleas and ploys to separate you from your
money.
What happens is simple...this weenie puts out an email
message and asks that you forward it... he sends it
out to a couple hundred people and begs them all to
keep passing it around... eventually, that email gets
back to the marketing freak and all he does is cut and
paste alllllll those email addresses and BOOM he now
has a list of valid addresses he can sell. Doubt the
validity of this? Think about it for a moment... how
did I get your address? You do not know me...
