Well, in actuality, if they did win the world cup, it would make the headlines across the globe. Because of the lack of interest in soccer in the United States of America, there seems to be nobody as good as the countries with a passion for soccer. If the United States became more interested in soccer like they do in Europe, more people would want to try out and there would be a greater selection of players who would have higher goals and dreams, but since (American) Football is the national sport, more people are setting their destiny onto Football, thus there is more selection and better players for that sport.

Before the USA can be truly competitive in World Cup play, we first must stop the drain of talent from MLS to foreign clubs, When the best American players start to stay home to play, this will build a groundswell of support for US Soccer and a World Cup will follow soon thereafter.

Given the up-curve we've seen in US Soccer in the past couple of decades (not qualifying for the World Cup for 40 years, but now have qualified for the last 5), it remains to be seen if we can take the steps necessary to go from qualifier to threat to win.

I think we're still at least a decade or two away.

When America learns to accept soccer then we might have a shot at the cup. Its the most popular sport in the world you would think that we might catch on to it. Its really to bad that in America football is king.

It it happened anytime in the next four to eight years I'd almost say it would have to be a miracle. Not that our team is that bad, just that the entire sport is still in its infancy compared to other countries.

I think the US would benefit from a foreign coach. They also need more players at clubs in Europe. The MLS just isn't as competive and it shows.
